DANIELS Electronics Receives over $22 Million in Orders

Daniels Electronics Ltd., has received over $22 M in recent orders from various government agencies (provincial/state and federal) for digital public safety radios. We thank our customers for this continued confidence in our products. These orders will be used in the ongoing expansion and upgrading of the respective government agency radio networks to provide state of the art communications for the first line public safety responders, be they police, fire or emergency management staff responding to forest fires, hurricanes or other public safety events.

Daniels Electronics announces a new 25 / 8.33 kHz Aviation AM radio

Last month we announced the enhancement of our radio product line, with the release of new VHF Aviation AM modules (Transmitters and Receivers) capable of operating at 8.33 kHz narrowband bandwidth in the 118-136 MHz aviation band in addition to the existing 25 KHz bandwidth.

VHF Aviation AM Transmitter Modules This expands Daniels Electronics ability to meet the needs of the North American aviation industry as it moves from 25 kHz wideband channels to 8.33 kHz channels. This follows the European trend where aircraft there have been using 8.33 kHz channels for several years. A distinguishing feature of Daniels AM radio modules is the handle on the front panel which contains a low current digital display and buttons to enable user channel programming. A typical application for the Daniels AM radio is an Air to Ground crossband repeater as shown below. A ground to air crossband repeater allows FM ground radios (VHF or UHF) to communicate with AM VHF aircraft radios. This is a common requirement at many airports to facilitate communications between the cockpit and the aircraft servicing crews (de-icing, refueling, baggage handling, etc). An example of this at the Hartford Airport in Connecticut, USA was described in a previous newsletter issue: http://www.danelec.com/company/news/newsletter_2005_spring.htm

A second example of air to ground crossband radios is for emergency response organizations. Ground based fire fighters or search and rescue crews require direct communication to the supporting aircraft and helicopters. Similarly police agencies may require direct communications with helicopters in the pursuit of a suspect. MT-4E

MT-4EThe MT-4E equipment series is a new platform for both digital P25 radios as well as analog LMR radios. The MT-4E radio (transmitter shown to the right) is a high performance, low current FM radio capable of P25 digital or analog operation in 12.5 KHz (narrowband) or 25 KHz (wideband) channels. The MT-4E is available in the frequency bands: 136-174 MHz and 406 – 470 MHz. Daniels MT-4E radios support either repeater or base station configurations. When used in base station applications they will receive clear or secure (encrypted) P25 and analog voice radio communications. When used in repeater applications they will repeat clear or secure (encrypted) P25 and analog voice radio communications. P25 operation is supported via a purchasable P25 firmware option and secure mode operation is available via optional encryption modules. The MT-4E provides new product functionality compared with the MT-3 and MT-4D:

  • Flashable firmware via a USB interface
  • Purchasable firmware upgrade from analog to P25 digital
  • Future Extended UHF frequency band: 380 – 520 MHz
  • Future 700 / 800 / 900 MHz support

The MT-4E provides capabilities supported by the predecessor MT-4D radios, the MT-3 Low Current Analog radios and the MT-3 Enhanced Analog Radios. Both Analog only and P25 (Digital, Clear or Secure, Mixed Mode and Analog) functionality are supported on the MT-4E platform with the appropriate selection of firmware. MT-4E modules are compatible with existing Daniels subracks, system monitor cards, control cards and the site infrastructure.
